Laura Friedman, whose political career includes serving as a California State Assembly member and former Glendale Mayor, has a documented relationship with pro-Israel advocacy and organizations. She was elected to Congress in 2024, representing California’s 30th Congressional District.
Friedman has received endorsements and support from several pro-Israel political action committees and organizations. She was endorsed by JStreetPAC, described as a Zionist liberal advocacy group. The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) also endorsed Friedman in 2024. Furthermore, she has been backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a prominent pro-Israel lobbying group.
Friedman has publicly affirmed her pro-Israel stance, identifying herself as a “progressive pro-Israel Jew”. She has expressed particular sensitivity to Israel’s “moment of crisis” and emphasized the importance of the United States being a strong ally. Her connection to Israel extends to having family in the country and having visited in 2019 as part of a delegation with members of the Jewish caucus.
Her advocacy efforts include active participation in the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, where she has been involved in initiatives to combat antisemitism. Friedman has stated that antisemitism is a form of discrimination and has worked on legislation aimed at reforming diversity, equity, and inclusion programs on college campuses to ensure the inclusion of Jewish narratives.
Friedman has also been involved in collective actions supporting Israel. She co-led the Congressional Jewish Caucus in demanding accountability from the Secretary of Defense concerning antisemitic public statements made by a senior Department of Defense official. Additionally, she was among 41 pro-Israel House Democrats who issued a statement praising the resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza, while simultaneously calling for the release of hostages and the cessation of Hamas’s rule. She contributed to negotiations on a resolution to ensure its language, advocating for “the release of all Israeli hostages” and “the end of Hamas’ rule in Gaza,” was acceptable across the Democratic pro-Israel community and the progressive wing of the party.
