Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, who represents California’s 46th State Assembly district and is seeking re-election in 2024, has documented relationships with pro-Israel advocacy groups and has engaged in activities consistent with pro-Israel advocacy.

Jesse Gabriel has received direct financial contributions from organizations identified as part of the “Israel lobby.” The California Jewish PAC, described as a “primary vehicle for pro-Israel and Zionist advocacy and political influence within California state government,” has contributed to his campaign. Additionally, the California Jewish Legislative Caucus Leadership PAC, identified as the “political financing arm of a legislative caucus dedicated to promoting pro-Israel legislation, strengthening California-Israel ties, and countering anti-Zionism,” has also made contributions. His total “Israel lobby direct contributions” are listed as $82,650.

Gabriel serves as the Chair of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus. This caucus advocates “on behalf of the professional, educational, social, political, and cultural concerns of the Jewish community” and is “dedicated to promoting pro-Israel legislation, strengthening California-Israel ties, and countering anti-Zionism.” In 2018, Democrats for Israel Los Angeles provided Gabriel with their “highest level of recommendation” for his “exceptional leadership on Pro-Israel and Jewish community issues.”

In terms of legislative actions, Gabriel introduced legislation to formally recognize the contributions of Israeli-Americans during Jewish American Heritage Month. This initiative was undertaken in collaboration with the Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) in California.

Furthermore, in February 2024, Assemblymember Gabriel participated in a trip to Israel sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, costing nearly $82,000 for a delegation of seven Democratic lawmakers. According to one of the sponsors, the trip’s purpose was to foster connections between California and Israel. Gabriel stated that his participation was “important to see with my own eyes the horrors of the October 7th terror attack and to talk with the families of hostages” held by Hamas.
