California State Senator Josh Becker has documented relationships with the Israel lobby and has engaged in pro-Israel advocacy. He serves as the Vice Chair of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus.
Becker has received contributions from entities identified with the “Israel lobby.” His total direct contributions from this lobby amount to $73,400, with an additional $50,000 in indirect contributions. Notably, the California Jewish PAC, described as a “primary vehicle for pro-Israel and Zionist advocacy and political influence within California state government,” contributed $21,600 to Becker between 2019 and 2025. Other direct contributors with documented ties to pro-Israel advocacy include Sheryl K. Sandberg, Anita Friedman, and Robert J. Fisher.
As a member of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus (LJC), Becker co-signed a statement on October 7, 2023, expressing horror regarding attacks against Israel, stating, “We stand with Israel” and asserting “Israel has the right and responsibility to defend its civilians”. The LJC, of which Becker is a Vice-Chair, has publicly declared its “enduring solidarity with the State of Israel”. This caucus has been characterized as being “out of step with most Democrats” regarding sympathy towards Palestine.
Becker is also listed as a co-sponsor of Assembly Bill (AB) 1468. This bill has faced opposition, with critics describing it as part of a “broader right-wing effort to suppress discussions on race, history, and global justice” and an attempt to “silence Palestine-related speech in California schools”. The Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC), a pro-Israel organization, is reported as a lead sponsor of AB 1468. Furthermore, Senator Becker has been cited for a past claim that “there was no Palestine”.
