Elizabeth Hirsh Naftali is a political donor and advocate with documented connections to pro-Israel advocacy and philanthropy. Her involvement has become particularly pronounced following the October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel.
Naftali has publicly engaged as a “global advocate for hostages” after her great-niece was abducted from Kfar Aza, Israel. She has subsequently traveled across the United States and internationally, asserting to share “the truth of the attacks, advocating for the release of all hostages, and highlighting the urgent need to confront rising antisemitism.”
Her advocacy includes authoring the book Saving Abigail, which details her family’s experience and aims to support ongoing efforts for hostages and their families. In pursuit of hostage release, Naftali has reportedly met with various international leaders, including U.S. Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and prime ministers from Qatar and Israel.
Beyond immediate advocacy, Naftali is involved in broader Israel-related and Jewish initiatives within Los Angeles. She serves on the board of the RAND Corporation Center for Middle East Public Policy. Philanthropically, in 2007, she initiated BIG Giving, a branch of BIG Shopping Centers, which reportedly supports educational, developmental, and coexistence programs for both Jewish and Arab children across Israel. Her philanthropic activities in Israel also extend to working with the Tel Aviv Foundation and the Babylonian Jewry Museum.
Her family background also indicates a history of engagement with Jewish community leadership, as her father served as the publisher of the Jewish Journal and president of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles.
